Everyone has that one genre that they get pulled to so much more than others. You gravitate to that section in the book store. Always circling back to it just to make sure you did not miss anything.
Katie: I’m having trouble picking between romance and fantasy. I read romance novels more often, but many of my favorite books that I go back to again and again are fantasy. I guess my absolute favorite would be a fantasy with a strong romance!
Jessie:
Fantasy! I’m definitely a nerdy novel kind of a gal, obviously! Along with “Harry Potter” and “LOTR”, my husband introduced me to “the Sword of Truth” series, by Terry Goodkind. This is an epic fantasy series with 21 books!!! I loved them all and began to feel like Richard and Kahlan had become my family! “Outlander,” is another series I fell in love with. Time traveling and historical fiction, yes please! Not to mention, Claire is total Girl Power! and Jamie Frasier sounds like a total fox!!!
Duckie: I like almost all genres of books. But if I have to choose the one I love the most, I suppose it has to be fantasy. It’s all about worldbuilding for me. Most of my favorite books, the ones I return to over and over again, are actually series of books: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Kingkiller Chronicles, A Song of Ice and Fire. I’ve read all of these multiple times and would pick them up again in a heartbeat. (Ok, I’ve read most of them multiple times, but I would pick them all up again.) I read books for the escapism. And there is nothing quite like getting lost in a fantasy world. I’m not saying I’d want to actually live in all these places (definitely not Westeros), but, fictionally speaking, they are the worlds for me.
Kellie:
My favorite is Classic British Literature. Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, William Shakespeare, Charlotte Bronte, George Elliot, Wilkie Collins, and the list goes on! In my school we had an awards ceremony for grades and the only class I ever stood up for the highest award possible was Sophomore year when we covered British Literature. I was in love with that class and with the genre. I lived in England for a while and it was amazing because i got access to the BBC archive and I could watch all of my favorite books come to life and find a few new ones!
Kathy:
Well, I think I covered this in my bio, but I feel like my favorite genre has changed over time!! I’ll always come back to a good romance, but I also love Thriller/Mysteries. I have so many favorites in this category including John Sandford, David Baldacci, Vince Flynn (who sadly is no longer with us), Mary Higgins Clark (also gone now), Brad Thor, etc. Some have recurring characters that you come to love, some you read just for the pleasure of trying to figure out who did it…and the satisfaction of knowing you were right!!
