Guilty Pleasures

Don’t you have that book that you really don’t want to display on a prominent section of your bookshelf? You just finished and you loved it but you don’t feel wholly comfortable talking about it with anyone? Well let us tell the whole internet about ours!

Katie:

My biggest guilty pleasures are Harlequin romance novels.  They are quick, easy reads and always make me smile.  We used to have an amazing used bookstore in town that just sold old Harlequin novels and going there and exchanging what I had for new ones was always fun.   I have about ten that were either my mom’s or that I bought when I was younger that I can read over and over again.  I still enjoy checking out the selection when I am in the grocery store or airport.  They are great to have on hand to read in case of emergency.    If I am having a bad day but don’t have a lot of time to read, I will pull one out and enjoy some easy stress relief.

Jessie:

My guilty pleasure has been the Mallory novels by Johanna Lindsey. I. Can’t. Get. Enough! I read them, reread them and reread them again!! I love feeling a part of the Mallory family while blushing and shrinking into my seat as I read the steamier passages! I’ve even enjoyed listening to them on audible! I just have to make sure none of my little people are around to hear!!

Duckie:

I’m usually very loud and very proud about my book collection. There are very few titles I’m embarrassed to display…until recently. Enter the Bridgerton books. I first heard of the series thanks to Netflix but quickly collected the entire eight books. As far as romance novels go, I think they are pretty mild. But there is absolutely some embarrassment when displaying a book called “When He Was Wicked.” Yikes. I’ll just set them up near the back of my shelves and surreptitiously sneak them out when I’m in need of a comfort read. Guilty pleasure, indeed.

Kellie:

I sadly have a few ideas floating in my head for this. I’m going to go with my webcomic series about mythology called Lore Olympus. It is in its second season and the writer/artist Rachel Smythe releases a new chapter each Saturday. It is a retelling of Persephone and Hades’ story. I have been reading it for a couple of years now and I’m completely in love with it. The artwork is so beautiful. It also is a completely different view of Hades. He gets to be the good guy who is misunderstood. I love that for him. I gobble up each episode so fast!

Kathy:

Oh!  I’ve taught my daughters well!!  Who doesn’t love a good bodice ripper??  Although to be politically correct, we do want them to be eager participants, not just subjected to their bodice ripping!!  I like my heroines to be equal parts innocent and sexually motivated!!  I have been a big fan of Johanna Lindsey, but have discovered so many more!!  Eloisa James and Julia Quinn to name a couple! I, too, like books that follow a family through the years and generations.  It feels like you get to know them and could be their friends!!
