Would you rather deal with the Ghost of Christmas Past or the Mouse King?

.

.

.

Katie:

The Ghost of Christmas Past.   It’s hard to say whether mice or ghosts freak me out more, but I’m not afraid of my Christmas past.

Jessie:

Ghost of Christmas Past

Duckie:

My knowledge of the Nutcracker is sorely lacking and I’m more afraid of the unknown, so I’ll have to go with the Ghost of Christmas Past here.

Kellie:

I think I actually would enjoy going back to like 98% of my past Christmases, so Christmas Past!

Kathy:  Ghost of Christmas Past please!!  I like Kellie’s reasoning on this one!!

Would you rather have Christmas dinner with the Grinch or Scrooge?

.

.

.

.

Katie:

Grinch, so that I could also hopefully see his cute dog.

Jessie:

Definitely the Grinch

Duckie:

The Grinch. He just seems more interesting.

Kellie:

Definitely the Grinch we know his heart grew 3 sizes that day!

Kathy: Neither please!!  Actually, they both come around on Christmas, so I guess I’ll say either!!

Would you rather receive a letter from Mark Twain’s or JRR Tolkien’s Father Christmas?

.

.

.

.

Katie:

I love both, but I think I am more curious to read Mark Twain’s.

Jessie:

Tolkien

Duckie:

Tolkien!!!

Kellie:

Mark only has one letter, Tolkien did this for years! I want to talk to Santa for years! Tolkien!

Kathy:  Twain please!

Would you rather ride the Polar Express or Santa’s sleigh?

.

.

.

Katie:

Santa!  Flying!  This one is a no brainer.

Jessie:

Santa’s sleigh

Duckie:

I love trains but the allure of the open air and being pulled by some magical reindeer is just too good. Santa’s sleigh, for sure.

Kellie:

The sleigh is appealing. But I think the fact that Santa has no face shield in the winter and there is hot cocoa on the train, leads me to say Polar Express!

Kathy:  Air in my face please…I’ll go with Santa’s sleigh!

Would you rather have a Blue Carbuncle in your Christmas goose (Arthur Conan Doyle)

or a Ruby in the Christmas Pudding (Agatha Christie)?

.

.

.

.

Katie:

I had to look up what a carbuncle is.  I think I will go with rubies and chocolate pudding.

Jessie:

Rubies!

Duckie:

Hmm, I haven’t read either (but this is making me want to amend that…), and usually I’m partial to rubies…but I really want a Christmas goose. I chose the blue carbuncle.

Kellie:

Blue is my color, but I have to choose Agatha over Doyle. She is the Queen of Mysteries for a reason! This book is a grouping of short stories so you get a little Poirot and a little Marple too!

Kathy:  A girl loves her rubies!!

Would you rather run with Frosty or Fly with the Snowman?

.

.

.

Katie:

Flying, definitely.

Jessie:

I’ll hang with Frosty

Duckie:

Running is the worst. Let’s fly, baby.

Kellie:

I chose to fly any day of the week! The snowman was one of my favorite books growing up!

Kathy:  Fly!

Would you rather eat Turkish Delight or Sugar Plums?

.

Image: Buena Vista Pictures

.

.

.

Katie:

Honestly, I don’t think I have had either.  But whenever I watch the cartoon version of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” movie, I always think the Turkish Delight looks so good.  So I would choose Turkish Delight.

Jessie:

Sugar Plums?

Duckie:

Turkish Delight. I actually have a lot of feelings about this. Of course the book made the treat sound delicious, but the cartoon version of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” was a very formidable part of my childhood, and the scene with Edmund gulping down Turkish Delight has formed a lot of thoughts about food in my life. Perhaps I need to see a therapist about this. In the meantime, though, I’m going to go eat some Turkish Delight.

Kellie:

I have tried Turkish Delight, now give me some Sugar Plums!

Kathy:  Ooh…love me some Turkish Delight!

Would you rather get a sweater from Mrs. Weasley or an embroidered handkerchief by Beth March?

.

.

.

Katie:

Mrs. Weasley sweater, no contest.

Jessie:

Mrs. Weasley sweater, duh

Duckie:

Sorry, Beth. I know you had a tough go in life but screw your hankie. I want a Weasley sweater. (Actually, I do have a knockoff version of Ron’s “R” sweater that I bought last year at King’s Cross station…but I know that a real Mrs. Weasley sweater would make you feel like you’re floating in a cloud of soft yarn and I want to feel that.)

Kellie:

Living in Nebraska one can never have enough sweaters! Give me that sweater, please! If i could chose I would like the one she made with the Dragon.

Kathy:  Tough call, but I’ll go with the hanky!

Would you rather have your loyal sidekick be Max the dog or Olive the Other Reindeer?

.

Image Universal Pictures

.

.

.

Katie:

Max

Jessie:

Max

Duckie:

Two very good boys to choose from! I think. I haven’t actually read Olive, the Other Reindeer but I’m just guessing he’s a good boy. But I chose Max, the goodest boy.

Kellie:

Olive believes she is the Olive the other reindeer mentioned in the Rudolph song and she has been kicked out of the North Pole because she was a bully. She is very sweet and cute but so is max I want both dogs! If I have to chose I guess it would have to be Max. He is there for all the sneaking and for being kind he is just there for all of it. Happy either way and a little judgmental when the grinch needed it!

M:  I’m a believer!! Olive!

Would you rather be around when the nutcracker or elf on the shelf comes alive?

 .

.

.

.

Katie:

Usborne Books & More has a really cute musical version of the Nutcracker and it has helped me really enjoy that story more.  I will choose the Nutcracker.

Jessie:

Elfie, although he took all the toilet paper from the bathroom and tp’d our Christmas tree last night. Naughty Elfie!

Duckie:

Can I choose neither? Both creep me out. But if I haaave to choose, I guess I’ll go with the Nutcracker. He can follow me around and crack some pistachios for me.

Kellie:

This is an easy one for me Elfie for sure! That is what my niece named her elf on the shelf! They get to go to the North Pole every night, maybe I could go with!

Kathy: Elfie!

Would you rather warm yourself with a mug of gluhwein or butterbeer?

.

.

.

Katie:

Gluhwein is another one I had to look up.  I don’t remember this in a book?  I will have to go with butterbeer.

Jessie:

I’ll second Mom

Duckie:

Butterbeer always sounds delicious in the book, but every version I’ve ever seen trying to create this magical beverage is cloying AF. Give me all the gluhwein.

Kellie:

I would prefer to just go to the Three Broomsticks to get a butterbeer! Or a street fair in London for the wine! Either would be great! So I guess I’m choosing both!

Kathy:  What is gluhwein???  Butterbeer for me!

Note: Duckie said that it is not Christmas without a gluhwein so we could not do this would you rather without it. I’m sure it is mentioned in a few books it is a german mulled wine. Mulled wine is a warm spiced wine. If you have not tried it I highly recommend! If you live in Nebraska, Soaring Wings Vineyard in Springfield sells mulling spices and can talk you through the process of mulling the wine at home! Super easy!

They talk about drinking mulled wine in at least two of Sophie Kinsella’s books there is a really great scene in “My not so perfect life” about a Christmas pop up with mulled wine.
